The Group was founded in 1974 by Bill H, and Bill K. Other members, at
that time, were Bud P, Bert C, Daryl R and Drew M. When the group started
they would meet on Wednesday nights at 8:00 pm at the home of Bert C's
house on Beals Island.
From there the Group moved to the Congregational Church in Jonesport, then
to the old high school, moving again, to the new high school. The next
move was to the Coast Guard Base in Jonesport, D.W. school in Addison,
and finally to its current location, the RLDS Church, back on "THE ROCK".
"Ole" Homer from Bar Harbor was a frequent speaker at meetings, and Teresa
C kept the meeting going for a long time.
The Group celebrates its members anniversaries on the last Saturday of the
month and holds regular business meetings on the first Saturday of the
month. It also does an annual group inventory in July/August.
The founders were strictly AA and delivered a hard-core message. The Group
has always been a discussion meeting and tries to emphasize tough love,
obedience and respect, through incorporating the twelve steps and twelve
traditions.
The Group's name "Moosebec" comes from "Moosebec Reach" an Indian word
meaning; "the water between Jonesport and Beals Island".
